A section of senior lawyers leaning to the opposition coalition have termed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s remarks on the judiciary as ‘unfortunate and backward’.
While on campaign trail in Baringo on Sunday, Uhuru accused courts of allegedly working with NAS coalition to sabotage electoral body IEBC.
But lawyer James Orengo and Moses Wetangula have warned Jubilee leadership against interference of the judiciary.
“Judiciary is an independent organ and Uhuru should let it do its job. He should respect it if at all he has no intentions to rig elections,” said Orengo.
Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula added: “We have sealed rigging loopholes and that is why they are panicking. We cannot allow him to intimidate courts.”
In what could be a response to the recent High Court ruling that barred IEBC from printing presidential ballot papers, Uhuru warned that h will not allow opposition to sabotage elections.
And in a quick rejoinder, CJ David Maraga maintained that he will not allow politicians to interfere with the operations of the courts by political entities.
