A major political showdown is expected on Wednesday May 31, during the launch of the first phase of the Standard Gauge Railway by President Uhuru Kenyatta as Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is also expected to attend the event. While hinting that he will attend the event, the fiery Governor said he is going to ask the President the 'hard questions' regarding the real cost of the multibillion project."Nataka nipate nafasi niende kwa hiyo jukwa niwaulize pesa wameiba wamepeleka wapi? Nataka niwaambie kwamba ile marupurupu wamepata lazima warudishie Wakenya," said Joho (I want to get an opportunity to go and ask them where they have taken the money they have stolen. I will tell them to give back those incentives to Kenyans).Events that have been attended by both Uhuru and Joho have been characterized by bitter exchanges with Joho using every opportunity to hit at the Jubilee administration's development record. In March, the Governor was blocked from attending relaunch of the Mtongwe Ferry over fears that he was planning to engage the President in a public spat. However, as for the SGR launch, it remains unclear whether the Governor will be allowed to attend the event or the scenes witnessed at Nyali Bridge during the relaunch of the ferry services will be replayed.
