President Uhuru Kenyatta has waded into the thick controversy surrounding the Nasa Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, accusing him of propagating violence.
The president and his deputy were on a tour of their stronghold in Kiambu appealed to their supporters to give them another five-year term saying they are the better team for the country.
Odinga’s sentiments last week in Kajiado that the Maasai should conserve their land and not sell it to outsiders seems to have caught the attention of the head of state, who accused him of dividing Kenyans to get support for the August elections.
“Twataka mashindano ya ukabila au ya sera? (Do we want tribal politics or politics based on policies),” asked the president.
The team toured several towns in Kiambu County, first attending a mass service at Kirigiti, where they urged the clergy and the congregants to pray for peaceful elections.
“Pray for us as leaders, so that we don’t divide Kenyans on tribal lines and propagate hate,” said the president.
The convoy then went to Kiambu Town, Githunguri, and other centres, where they sold their achievements to the locals.
“They don’t have their manifesto, they are now trying to copy what we 9Jubilee) are doing,” said Deputy President William Ruto, who accused the NASA coalition of ‘hijacking’ their agenda.
