President Uhuru Kenyatta has reiterated that Jubilee Party will conduct free and fair nominations ahead of 2017 polls.
His statement comes barely after he set a campaign team across the country, with a section of leaders from his strongholds opposing a number of individuals he appointed.
Uhuru, who was touring Central Kenya on Monday, said Jubilee Party could not afford to embrace rigging and shortchanging of popular individuals.
“It is the people who will decide whether or not you are fit. I do not have powers to impose leaders on people. We shall have free and fair primaries so that people make a decision,” he said.
“I will not favour anybody because I am also ready for a challenge should you want to run against me. We should respect party structures for the sake of democracy,” he added.
The Jubilee Party has already identified Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to be in charge of nominations.
