President Uhuru Kenyatta and former president Mwai Kibaki have mourned the death of the former moderator of Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), Rev John Gatu.
The veteran cleric was rushed to the Karen Hospital, Tuesday after a massive heart attack. He died, Thursday, while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The Head of State, who received the news while on his London tour, described the late reverend as a committed religious leader who led a life of simplicity and service aided by his strong character and independent mind.
“In this hour of sorrow, I convey my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the Presbyterian Church of East Africa, and the family, relatives and friends of the late Reverend John Gatu,” said Uhuru in a condolence message to newsrooms.
Kibaki in his condolence described Gatu as a tolerant servant of God.
“For as long as I have the late Rev. Gatu, who runs into fifty years, this man of God was always stoic, ever true to his calling to serve fellow mankind without discriminating,” said Kibaki.
“What however, made Rev. Gatu all more special was his intellectual disposition that gave his preaching of the word a rare touch of thoughtfulness and finesse,” he added.
