Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati has dismissed President Uhuru Kenyatta's continued charm offensive ahead of the polls.
The Head of State has been dishing out goodies to Kenyans for the past two months. But in a lengthy opinion editorial by Arati published by The Star Newspaper on Monday, the lawmaker noted that the move by President Kenyatta seeks to to solicit for sympathy votes from Kenyans after sensing defeat."These goodies are the last kicks of either a dying donkey or a horse being employed by the Jubilee government. President Uhuru Kenyatta has to craft his survival tactics, but you know it is too late and too little to change anything," he stated. He further argued that Kenyans have already made up their minds to vote out the Jubilee adminstration during the next general elections."Voters at this juncture have made up their minds – either President Uhuru is going home or not. Dishing out cash at this moment definitely cannot help him. Therefore, it is unfortunate that Uhuru had all this time, to be exact four-and-a-half years, and now has resorted doing what he is he doing," he quipped.
President Kenyatta is facing stiff competition from a more united and re-energized Opposition as he seeks to recapture the presidency.
He will be facing off with former Prime Minister and NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga, alongside a host of other candidates who are eyeing the presidency.
