Initially, President Kenyatta had ruled out calls by the opposition to have dialogue over the crisis resulting to persistent demonstrations across the country in which at least six people were reportedly shot dead by the police.

But the renowned historian who spoke to the reporter after the unprecedented announcement by the president hailed the decision terming it courageous and urged opposition Cord to join for the sake of peace.

“I want to thank the president for making such a courageous announcement and it has shown he cares for lives of the people he leads. Dialogue is welcomed in such a crisis which involves political players,” he said.

“A small matter that needs a political solution cannot make the country disintegrate. I regret the loss of lives we saw in the recent weeks and I want to challenge my respected friend Raila Odinga to wholeheartedly allow his team to join negotiations,” he added.

He faulted presidential advisors and called for their resignation for allegedly misleading the president over the IEBC stalemate.

“This matter took unnecessary longer than expected. The presidential advisors should resign like yesterday for misleading him all this long,” he said.

President Uhuru on Wednesday said Jubilee would convene on Thursday to appoint a committee that will join a team that had been appointed by Cord leadership to dialog over IEBC which opposition accuses of partiality.
