President Uhuru Kenyatta this evening wrapped up his working tour of Nyeri, Laikipia, Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties which saw the launch of projects worth over Sh20 billion.
Uhuru concluded the two-day tour in Murang’a town by commissioning medical equipment and opening MRI centre at the Murang’a County Referral Hospital installed at a cost of Sh400 million by the national government under the Managed Equipment Services programme.
While in Murang’a county, the President commissioned the Kangema-Gacharage road in Kiharu Constituency.
The 33-kilometre road, which was constructed at a cost of Sh4.1 billion will boost marketing of farm produce including coffee and livestock products among others.
He also launched the tarmacking of Mukuyu-Kambiria- Mirira – Gwathamaki; Gakira – Ngonda – Mununga and Gakonya – Mahuaini roads.
Earlier, the President – who was accompanied by his deputy William Ruto – commissioned medical equipment installed at Kerugoya County Referral Hospital by the national Government under the MES programme at a cost of Sh400 million.
He also launched the tarmacking of the Kutus – Kianyaga – Kiamutugu – Githure – Kibugu road at Kianyaga in Kirinyaga county. The road will be tarmacked at a cost of over Sh1.3 billion.
“The upgrading and improvement of roads in all parts of our country will spur development and improve economy Kenyans,” Uhuru said.
President Kenyatta, at the same time, announced that the Jubilee Administration has in this financial year set aside Sh2.4 billion as bailout for coffee farmers in the region.
On Monday, the President launched the construction of the Sh720 million Narumoru – Ngaring’iru – Ngobit road in Nyeri county, a key road that will greatly reduce transport costs and provide an important link to Laikipia county.
He also announced that the Government will construct Narumoru dam at a cost of Sh9 billion to provide sufficient water to the people of Nyeri county.
In Laikipia county, the Head of State commissioned hospital equipment at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral, saying Sh80 million has also been set-aside for X-ray among other key equipment required at the facility.
Addressing residents in Othaya town after inspecting the new building of the Othaya hospital, Uhuru said the government has set aside Sh300 million to facilitate completion of the project.
The President also commissioned the Mukurwe ini – Othaya Water Supply and Sewerage project at Kihuri in Othaya and assured that the government will provide Sh10 million for piping to supply the water in Mukurwe ini constituency.
