President Uhuru Kenyatta's government lost another Sh2 billion in an exercise dubbed as 'green public schools', reports the Daily Nation.
The funds were meant to finance tree planting , creation of nurseries in public schools and a countrywide initiative to turn at least 10 per cent of all primary schools into forests.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko has since handed over a report into the investigations to EACC for further action.
"There is need for thorough investigations since this programme has been allocated huge sums of money with minimum impact," reads the report.
"The money was also deposited directly to some officials numbers through M-Pesa services," notes the task force that has been investigating illegal logging in government forests.
For weeks now, the government has been involved in earth cracking corruption scandals with NYS leading the pact.
On Monday morning, NYS Director General Richard Ndubai was arrested by investigative agencies over Sh9 billion scandal.
