President Uhuru Kenyatta (C) in military gear [PHOTO/the-star.co.ke]President Uhuru Kenyatta has made a historic visit to Somalia and met the Kenyan peace-keeping troops in the Gulf country.
Dressed in full military gear, The Commander-in-Chief made the Saturday stop that saw him visit troops serving under the wider African Union Mission stationed at Dhobley Military base in Somalia
He thanked the people of uniform for their sacrifice and service to Kenya and Africa and added that KEnya would forever be indebted to them forever for neutralising the Al-Shabaab threat.
“Your being here in Somalia has saved many lives, and for that Kenyans will forever be indebted to you. Your presence here has at least freed people of the fear of Al Shabaab,” President Kenyatta said.
He added that the country was working on an exit strategy to ensure that Somalia first gets a stable military.
“We are talking to the new Somali Government to emphasize to them the importance of building their military so that you can go back home. That is our exit strategy,” President Kenyatta added.
The Dhobley Military Camp serves as the headquarters of the AMISOM and is the nerve centre and log base for the UN.
