The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta, Cabinet Secretaries Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution), Fred Matiang'i (Education) and a host of governors of breaching electoral laws in the run up to the August polls.
In a recent report released by the commission, KNHRC put top state officials on the spot for allegedly engaging in electoral malpractices.
The report accuses the officials of bribing the electorate by dishing out cash or offering goodies in form of relief food.
The report singled out an instance where the Head of State gave Sh10 million and donated a school bus to Nyambaria High School early June 2017, contrary to the electoral laws.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Fred Matiang’i who was in attendance also campaigned for the President in both Nyamira and Kisii County which is a violation of the Act which bars civil servants and cabinet secretaries from engaging in politics while still in office. In another incident on July 11, 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta donated a school bus to Maasai Girls High School in Ngong Town, Kajiado County," the report said in part.
