Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Sunday sensationally claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta met IEBC officials at State House in Nairobi last week.
A visibly divided IEBC has settled on October 26th for presidential repeat poll with sources intimating that chairman Wafula Chebukati had his push for postponement defeated in the plenary.
To strategize on the way forward following his withdrawal, Odinga said, Uhuru met all the seven officials and broadly discussed how to legitimize the elections.
“IEBC is no longer independent. They met Uhuru is State House and here they are wanting me to take part in the elections, “he told his Mombasa supporters, adding that he will only participate polls when reforms have been undertaken.
He further said: “We have pushed for reforms before and certainly this one will sail through. I am not interested with coalition government.”
Despite the allegations, IEBC has maintained that it is ready for the repeat poll and that all candidates who appeared on August 8th will be part of the exercise.
Having withdrawn from the race, it is not clear what Odinga will do next but sources privy to NASA’s operations says he is keen to frustrate voting in his strongholds.
