President Uhuru Kenyatta Saturday joined mourners at the burial of Mzee William Gatuhi Murathe at his farm in Gatanga, Murang’a County.
Speaking at the funeral service at PCEA Kirwara Church, President Kenyatta eulogised Mzee Murathe – a prominent businessman from Murang’a – as a hardworking man who played a leading role in community development even though he was not a politician.
“Murathe is an excellent example of how to give back to society because he devoted his time and resources to improve the community,” he said.
The late Murathe was the father of Jubilee Party Vice-Chairman David Wakairu Murathe, a former Gatanga MP.
The President also praised Mzee Murathe’s business acumen that saw him excel in all the enterprises he ventured into.
“Mzee Murathe was a pioneer businessman and succeeded through hard work,” he said.

President Kenyatta announced that earlier today at State House, Nairobi, he had met some members of the Rwathia Group comprising entrepreneurs from Murang’a, who have significantly contributed to the growth of Nairobi and other parts of the country.
He said the history of Murathe and the Rwathia Group, who have done a lot for Kenya, must never be forgotten.
Saying he has known the late Murathe for many years, President Kenyatta assured the family that he will be with them at the difficult time of mourning.
The President took the opportunity to call for peace as political campaigns kick in ahead of the August 8 elections.
