This is after what Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter and Uganda Minister of Energy Irene Muloni described as 'fruitful discussions' between the two leaders on Monday in Nairobi.

The presidents heard technical presentations by Kenyan and Ugandan energy officials on options of constructing the pipeline from Hoima on Lake Albert, through Kenyan “nothern route” through the oil fields of Lokichar; the Kenyan “southern route” through Nakuru town, with a loop to Lokichar, as well as route from Hoima to Tanga in Tanzania.

The next meeting in Kampala in two weeks will see the technical teams discuss least cost option for a regional integrated pipeline.

The team will also look into viability of the ports of Lamu, Mombasa and Tanga as export options.

They will also debate constructability issues along all routes.

The current proven reserves which will have an impact on the size of the pipeline will also be in the Kampala meeting agenda.
