President Uhuru Kenyatta has moved to consolidate his support in the Maasailand ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
This is through the appointment of Joseph Nkadayo to head the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority. He previously headed the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
Uhuru has been appointing individuals from the Maasai into government to get backing of the community.
Nkadayo's appointment will hopefully shore up Jubilee Party’s fortunes in Kajiado county where the ruling coalition has faced fierce competition from Raila Odinga's-led National Super Alliance (NASA).
Jubilee leaders have been using professionals appointed into various positions of government as back-anchor to persuade the people where they come from to support Jubilee in the August 8 general election.
Before he met his death Saturday morning, former Internal Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery had been campaigning for the ruling coalition urging Kajiado residents to back the government because of the many professionals who have been appointed by Jubilee administration.
In a recent Jubilee campaign rally, CS Nkaissery pointed out the appointment of three Principal Secretaries: Richard Lesiyampe (Agriculture), Charles Sunkuli (Environment) and Defence PS Saitoti Ole Torome from Narok.
“We also have a number of parastatal chairmen, including Nkadayo and Ole Nkeri (managing director Portland Cement).
“All these appointments point to the fact that the president loves the Maasai community,” Nkaissery was quoted by the Daily Nation.
In the 2013 elections, Uhuru garnered 52 percent of the votes (138,851 votes) against his rival Raila Odinga's 44 percent (117,856 votes).
