President Uhuru Kenyatta has called upon contractors of the Standard Gauge Railway to source their materials from the areas through which the rail traverses as a way of giving back to the local communities.
Speaking on Wednesday at Embulbul when he held a meeting with those working on the project, Mr Kenyatta asked the contractor companies to create business opportunities for local industries by buying from them building materials.
“Forty per cent of the money used in materials will be sourced from local industries to grow the economy and create jobs,” he said.
Kenyatta added that even though the project was expensive, it was going to open up the country for more trade and creation of job opportunities.
He also assured the country that the much-publicised fears over the Nairobi National Park were of no use as the railway would have no effect on the wildlife in the park.
