President Uhuru Kenyatta has waded into 2022 succession politics.
Speaking when he took his reelection campaigns to Makueni County, the President urged Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to ditch NASA and join Jubilee so he can form the government with Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.
“He (Kalonzo) is my friend and a true gentleman. I'm calling upon him to ditch the opposition outfit and join the ruling coalition because he is being misled by Raila Odinga. I'll retire after 5 years and he can team-up with Ruto in the 2022 general election," President Kenyatta said on Saturday.
DP Ruto has already declared his interest to succeed his boss after he serves another term as the Head of State after next month's polls.
However, in a quick rejoinder, the Wiper leader laughed off the call saying the statement by the Jubilee leader was a sign of his frustrations and agony after realising his regime was coming to an end after the August 8 polls.
“It is comical for Uhuru and Ruto to ask me to join them as they march towards Opposition trenches, for that is surely where they will be after NASA takes over power after the August 8th, 2017 General Election,” said Kalonzo through a statement to the press on Sunday.
