Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, are planning to take Raila Odinga to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In a tweet posted on Thursday, June 15, 2017, Ngunyi alleges that Uhuru and “Ruto have enough motive to frame him (Raila)” – that is why Kenya never withdrew from the Rome Statute.
“Raila will be a guest of ICC. Uhuru and Ruto have enough motive to frame him. They are collecting evidence. This is why Kenya never left ICC,” Ngunyi posted.
Last week, the President, his deputy and Garissa Township MP Aden Duale claimed that Nasa leaders were talking to ICC prosecutors to have their cases revived.
Speaking on Sunday during a campaign tour of Western Kenya, Duale also claimed that the European court would be banking on evidence “concocted by the opposition” should President Kenyatta lose the elections.
“ICC as a court has confirmed it was never about justice. What ICC now wants is revenge and Kenyans will not allow them. You cannot say you are waiting for a particular Government to reopen the ICC cases, unless you are saying you want to help in concocting the evidence,” said Duale.
Uhuru and Ruto were facing charges of crimes against humanity over the 2007/2008 post-election violence in Kenya.
The charges were, however, dropped. The court cited witness interference as one of the reasons it abandoned the case against the two.
