The government has assured workers that an increment in the minimum wage is imminent ahead of this year's Labour Day celebrations, even as doubts increase owing to statements from some stakeholders.
Last week, president Uhuru had asked the private sector to increase the wages of their employees.
Talks over the same, are underway between the government, the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) and the Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC).
State House Spokesperson, Manoah Esipisu, who addressed the press on Monday April 17, said that the minimum wage was bound to rise.
“The government has not increased the minimum wage for two years. Workers can look forward to an increase this year,” he said.
Esipisu said that the president was waiting for recommendations from the National Police Service Commission and the SRC on the issue of salaries for members of the security agencies.
Esipisu also said the president was keen on getting Parliament to pass the two third gender rule to increase women participation in leadership.
