Mr Odinga has been putting Jubilee government under pressure as he prepares to try perhaps his last attempt to clinch presidency after three trials.

But President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, during a roadside address at Kisii town, challenged Mr Odinga to retire from active politics and guide young politicians on leading the nation.

“Mzee (Raila Odinga) has been putting us under pressure and he agrees with all of us that the government is working. His problem is coming with imaginary scandals to taint us but deep his heart he knows Jubilee is one of the best governments the country has ever had,” he said amidst cheers.

“Time has come for him to retire honorably and pass the mantle to youthful leaders because he is a statesman. We need more of his advice rather than politics of rhetoric,” he added.

He slammed Mr Odinga as a politician putting the country on political moods, terming such actions as ‘retrogressive’ politics.

“He wants us to politic all times and no one has time for such retrogressive politics. He should retire and show leaders from both political divides rather than trying to get into leadership through propaganda and witch hunt politics,” he said.

Uhuru was accompanied by his Deputy William Ruto, Education CS Fred Matiang’i and a host of county leaders led by Governor James Ongwae.
