Photo/PSCU]  President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga have agreed that the late former Finance Minister David Mwiraria should be cleared of any wrong doing in the Anglo-leasing scandal ''now that there is consensus that he was innocent.''They urged all those who had condemned him before, to come out and state clearly “it was all politics”, and that Mwiraria was not involved in the scam in which Kenya lost billions of shillings.

“Let us all put pressure on the investigative agencies to fully investigate Anglo Leasing, arrest and charge the real culprits. If people had not played politics, Mwiraria would not have been prosecuted and probably he would be alive today,” Kenyatta said, as quoted by PSCU.

Speaking during Mwiraria’s funeral service at the Ntakira Methodist Church in Meru, Uhuru challenged Raila and others, to come forward and clearly state Mwiraria’s innocence.

Anglo-leasing scandal is alleged to have started when the Kenyan government wanted to replace its passport printing system, in 1997, but came to light after revelation by a government officer, in 2002.It was among the many corrupt deals that were inherited from Kanu government, that had ruled Kenya for 24 years.
