A section of elders form Garissa County have commended National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta for agreeing to put their political differences aside and work together.
The elders led by Kenya Livestock Marketing council chairman Dubat Amey said the decision by the two leaders to come together was a show of statesmanship.
Speaking on Tuesday in Garissa town, Mr Amey called on leaders and Kenyans to support President Kenyatta and Raila in consolidating national unity.
The chairman said that the country needs unity and reconciliation after a long political and electioneering period.
“This is true statesmanship. We urge all Kenyans of good will and especially the co-principals of NASA Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula to support the two leaders in bringing together the country that has been deeply divided by politics.”
“We should seize this unprecedented opportunity to talk to each other and reconcile our communities. Let’s for once keep aside our personal interest and look at the wider interest and common good of the Kenyan people,” said Mr Amey as quoted by KNA.
