The 38th anniversary of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta has provided a platform for President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader, Raila Odinga to call for the unity of the country.
The two leaders have called upon Kenyans to maintain peace ahead of the 2017 general polls.
Speaking during the commemoration of the 38th anniversary of Kenya's founding father at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi, the two leaders vowed that never again will the country experience bloodshed due to political competition.
President Kenyatta, who had earlier led his family among other leaders to lay wreaths at his late father's mausoleum, rallied Kenyans to embrace the health competition.
The president noted that Kenya belongs to the entire citizenry and therefore anything that may compromise peace should be shunned.
On his part, Raila urged Kenyans not to be carried by the political heat likely to characterise the upcoming general polls.
The two leaders shared a platform at the holy family basilica where the religious ceremony for the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta took place.
