President Uhuru Kenyatta has castigated the opposition for ignoring his invitation to Afraha stadium and instead holding their rally in Uhuru park.

The president who was presiding over 53rd Madaraka day celebrations faulted opposition leaders for deciding to hold parallel Madaraka celebrations asserting; "Respect those in leadership, someday you might also be in governance and you will need to be respected."

"Let's respect each other as Kenyans and respect the rule of law as provided for in our constitution," Kenyatta said.

The president underscored that he was not aware why the Opposition botched to honour his invite.

Opposition leaders and Amani coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi were expected at Afraha Stadium and their seats had been reserved for them at the front row.

Cord leaders were requested to join the president in Nakuru by during a State House meeting that accommodated South Korean President Park Geun-Hye.

Raila Odinga, however, did not immediately approve whether he would join the president in the Nakuru fete.

Raila Odinga joined his followers and fellow opposition leaders in their Uhuru Park held rally. 

President Kenyatta in his speech announced that the next public holiday, Mashujaa day would be held in Machakos.
