[Photo/Dennis Mwikya]A section of leaders from the Jubilee party on Saturday indicated President Uhuru Kenyatta is open to dialogue with his political rival Raila Odinga before the January 30 deadline issued by the National Super Alliance (NASA).
Deputy Majority Leader in the Senate and Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi said Uhuru has not closed doors for talks to end the political impasse in the country. “The swearing-in is untenable. The president is ready to dialogue with the opposition leaders. I am urging NASA to shelve its swearing in plans because they will plunge the country into uncertainty,” Kindiki said. Speaking at the same event, Governor Kiraitu Murungi said that no swearing in will happen on January 30 as the police will be on standby to deal with any incident. Murungi joked that police will be available to escort Raila home once he takes oath of office and asked Kenyans to remain calm.
"Don't be troubled. There is no swearing in that will take place come January 30. So be calm. Don't be troubled," Murungi said.
Kalonzo speaking at machakos on Friday warned that Kenya will go the South Sudan and Somalia way if Uhuru does not open doors for dialogue before January 30 when Raila will be sworn in.
“This country is at the purge of conflict because there must be dialogue; I am just warning everyone in Kenya that if we do not hold dialogue at the right time then it becomes too late. That is why I say it pains me, if we do not hold dialogue before 30th of this month, then we shall hold it there after at a very difficult situation” said kalonzo
