Speaking during the NYS pass-out parade on Wednesday, Kenyatta said, the government had allocated Sh22.4 billion to the new-look NYS.

The president added that the transformation of the NYS was in line with the government’s agenda of empowering youths towards self-sustenance by creating employment opportunities.

“NYS will in its next two intakes recruit 22,000 young men and women. The new vision will ensure that the recruits are trained to support self-employment promotions,” Mr Kenyatta said.

The new vision for the NYS was launched on Wednesday by the Jubilee leader during the passing out of more than 4,000 NYS recruits at Gilgil town.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru revealed that machinery worth more than Sh5 billion had already been procured from China to assist in the new transformation of the NYS.

“NYS has also acquired 103,315 acres of land in 13 counties. The lands will assist in the training and education that the recruits will be undergoing,” said Waiguru.

At the same time, the president said that politicians who organise youths to cause chaos are irresponsible and have no vision to empower the young generation.
