A section of elders in Kilifi have vowed to drum up support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election in the run-up to the October 17 repeat presidential poll.Addressing journalists in Mtwapa on Thursday, the elders promised to woo residents to support President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto so as to give them a chance to advance Jubilee’s development agenda.“We are here to express our full support for Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the fresh presidential poll,” said Daniel Ruya, the chairman of the elders’ caucus.Mzee Ruya said the President and his deputy offer the country the best prospects for continuous and sustained development, peace and unity.“The duo offer the country focused leadership and we are determined to see them back in State House on October 17,” he said.On his part, Raphael Mwagala a former civic leader lauded the Jubilee government for launching different development projects in the Coast region such as irrigation ad road expansion projects.“We had taken a wise decision by endorsing President Uhuru’s re-election bid in the August 8 polls and we are here today to reaffirm the same,” he said.Josephine Mwihaki said the president and his deputy deserve a second term in office due to their vast development track record across the country.Her sentiments were reiterated by James Muchemi, Jubilee’s chief campaigner in the county, who said they will mount a door to door campaign to drum up support for the president to ensure that he wins the repeat election with a big margin.In the August 8 election, NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga garnered 273,852 votes in Kilifi while President Uhuru got 49,693 votes.
