A fired president Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday insisted that he still respects Chief Justice David Maraga despite nullification of his victory by Supreme Court.
In a series of his outings since September 1st landmark ruling, Uhuru has often accused Supreme Court judges of initiating a ‘judicial coup’ to satisfy opposition demands.
But at Ekerenyo, Uhuru downplayed claims that his relationship with the Chief Justice was strained and practically irreconcilable.
“I respect your son Maraga and I have nothing against him. We can meet, talk and even make jokes. Ignore the propaganda being generated.
“It was my right to critique the ruling and I think that is normal in any country. I have never gone personal and he remains my friend.” Uhuru said, adding that he is sure of another victory.
Couple of weeks ago, at Burma market in Nairobi, a defiant Uhuru vowed to ‘deal’ with the Supreme Court judges should he win the repeat poll.
Thousands of people from Kisii and Nyamira Counties went to streets in defense of Maraga and openly accused Uhuru of interfering with independence of the judiciary.
