Machage, a one-time right hand man of NASA leader  Raila Odinga broke ranks with the former Premier and decamped from ODM to join little-known DP party which he used to contest the Kuria West MP seat, but lost to the Jubilee candidate.

The veteran politician who joined Parliament in 2002 was one of the few politicians from Nyanza region who openly expressed their opposition to Raila.

After losing in the General Election, Machage joined the race for Senate Speaker but lost to Ken Lusaka. Since then, he maintained low political profile probably trying to ponder on his next move.

However, yesterday, President Kenyatta gave him a political lifeline when he nominated him an ambassador and forwarded  his name to Parliament for vetting.

Should his name be approved for appointment, Dr. Machage will join former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura as top election losers in Nyanza to make a comeback.

Obura was appointed Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of East Africa Affairs.
