[Photo/capitalfm.co.ke]President Uhuru Kenyatta has hit out at the National Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga for threatening to boycott the fresh presidential elections.Raila on Tuesday said Nasa will not participate in the October 17 poll noting that the election body, IEBC had not consulted the opposition team before setting the date.
Speaking on Tuesday during a meet-the-people tour of Ongata Rongai, Kiserian and Ngong in Kajiado County Uhuru told off Raila that the constitution does not indicate he (Raila) should be consulted."There is no legal requirement that Raila be consulted. I was neither consulted. Kenya doesn't belong to one man," said Uhuru. On his part, Deputy President William Ruto asked the ODM leader to boycott the election if he wants since it is not mandatory for him to vie.“There is nowhere in the Constitution that says Raila Odinga must participate in any election in this country. So he is at liberty to participate or not to participate in the October 17 polls,” said Ruto. The DP further noted Jubilee is ready for the repeat election on the set date.“Now they are threatening to boycott the October 17 repeat elections. We will go to the polls as set by the IEBC. These happen,” added the Deputy President.
