President Uhuru Kenyatta today said the Government will beef up security in the country.

He said there will be no lapse in security after the death of Internal Security CS Gen Joseph Nkaissery.

Speaking in Baringo, the President said security forces will step up measures to protect Kenyans in memory of the late Cabinet Secretary.

“I want to assure the people of Baringo and all Kenyans that we will continue ensuring that security is strengthened. Those who think they can get an opportunity to harm Kenyans should know that there will be no chance for them,” said the President when he addressed rallies at Kabartonjo and Marigat, Baringo County in the company of Deputy President William Ruto.

General Nkaissery who died on Saturday led a spirited reform of the security forces and interior CS was credited with restoring confidence in the sector.

President Kenyatta on Saturday appointed Education CS Dr Fred Matiang’i acting Interior CS. Dr Matiangi is credited with restoring integrity and credibility in national examinations.

Earlier, President Kenyatta and the Deputy President were among thousands of Christians who attended the Sunday service at the Kabortonjo African Inland Church (AIC) in Baringo County.

President Kenyatta urged Christians to continue praying for peace especially now that the country was preparing for the August General Election.

He urged religious leaders to continue to preach the virtues of peace, love, selflessness and tolerance, which Christ epitomizes.

“All of us should know that peace, love and unity remain key to the development of our country,” said President Kenyatta.

“Let’s pray for peace, unity and the leadership of this country especially at this time of elections,” he added.

The Head of State also condoled with the family, friends, people of Maa and Kenyans in general following the sudden death of Gen Nkaissery.

He warned those bent on causing chaos thinking that there was a vacuum at the security docket following the death of the late Nkaissery that they would be dealt in accordance with the law.

Baringo North MP William Cheptumo assured that residents of the County were firmly behind the leadership of Jubilee.

“Just like the way our people supported you in 2013, I want to assure President Kenyatta that this time round the numbers will be much more for Jubilee than the last elections,” said Mr Cheptumo.
