President Uhuru Kenyatta has endorsed Peter Kenneth for the Nairobi gubernatorial race. Speaking during the a funeral in Gatanga, a constituency that Kenneth represented up to 2013, the president asked Murang’a residents to pray for the aspirant to win Jubilee nominations on Friday. “I am calling on you Kirwara residents to pray for your son so that he can win the Jubilee ticket in Nairobi,” Uhuru said, as quoted by the Star. The endorsement is likely to cause a fallout in Jubilee, with Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko previously vowing never to step down for Kenneth, who ran unsuccessfully to become Kenya’s president in 2013. Kenneth, in turn, endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta for re-election in the August general election. “I will fight to get the ticket and seat in Nairobi so that when I come to visit you I will be Nairobi governor, but I urge you all to vote for the President in the general elections to prove your love for your President,” the former Gatanga MP said. Apart from Senator Sonko, who political analysts consider a favorite to win the nominations, Kenneth is also facing competition from former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru.
