President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on Jubilee Party supporters to back the outfit's candidates eyeing different elective seats during the forthcoming polls.
Speaking on Wednesday during his tour of Central Kenya, the Head of State noted that election of Jubilee candidates would help him to effectively run the government.
“I need a formidable team that will be in charge of the development agenda that will help the growth of the nation,” he said.
President Kenyatta's call is likely to cause discontentment among independent candidates in Central Kenya, who have since resolved to back his presidential bid.
His remarks came a few hours after Murang'a Senator Kembi Gitura was blocked from accessing the Head of State's rally by supporters of Kiharu MP Irungu Kang'ata.
Gitura will be seeking re-election as an independent candidate after losing the Jubilee Party ticket to Kang'ata.
Most of the independent candidates in the region lost the Jubilee Party ticket during the primaries, and include political heavyweights.
