A Jubilee coalition MP has termed President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto dictators.
The first time MP from Central Kenya who asked not to be named is unhappy with the move by the Jubilee Coalition leadership to stop nomination losers from switching to different parties.
The MP criticized the DP for stating that he would kick out those MPs against the proposed law to curb party hopping before elections, calling it backward.
"The address by the DP in Karen was all wrong. There is no room for negotiation in his view. We must all conform to what he wants or leave Jubilee," he told News24.
The MP added that some MPs had genuinely been stripped of their right to win nominations through unfair means and that they deserve a chance to seek redress elsewhere.
" There will be a big problem because there will be many challenges in court once the law comes through. People will be denied room to defend themselves from vices such as rigging and no one will be happy," the MP added.
The DP though, while speaking at his official residence, stated that there would be no room for changes.
" We are not opposed to party hopping, but what we want is a situation where we can decide to be members of certain political parties based on their ideologies before the parties’ nominations are held,” said Ruto.
The DP said that MPs should join parties they feel comfortable with because that was their democratic right. He further warned MPs who will not comply that the party may resolve to issue direct nomination in their areas.
" If you don't want to support this bill then you are in the wrong party," he stressed.
The bill is set to be adopted in Parliament next week.
