President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto on Saturday campaigned in Uasin Gishu County, calling for locals to back Jubilee candidates in the August elections.
The two also urged the locals to give them another term, saying they have done a lot to improve lives of Kenyans.
The two also threw their weight behind incumbent governor Jackson Mandago and MPs Alfred Keter and Oscar Sudi in the coming general elections.
“Mheshimiwa Kiprop Buzeki, kwa heshima akubali amuunge mkonio ndugu yake Mandago, (I am requesting Buzeki to support his brother Mandago),” said the Deputy.
This came amid division talks in the area among top leaders, after the recently concluded party primaries.
Political anxiety has been building in the area for weeks, with talk that the DP was behind the candidature of Buzeki despite the existence of a Jubilee Party candidate.
The DP however made his stand known during the rally, choosing to back Mandago and calling for unity among area leaders.
“Asiyekubali kushindwa waswahili wanasema si mshindani, wale walishindana Sudi hapa wamuunge mkono, yule Buzeki aliyeshindana na Mandago, aunge mkono Mandago, (If you vied during the party primaries and lost, let us be good sportsmen and support the winners),” he added.
The area is among top counties that will experience high political battle, as incumbent Mandago battles Buzeki, who lost during the Jubilee Party primaries and chose to vie as an independent candidate.
