President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to travel to Cuba on a mission to borrow a leaf from the country's advanced healthcare system.

According to State House, the trip is yet to be confirmed but it might take place later this year. 

News about the planned trip comes just days after Health CS Cleopa Mailu visited Havanna last week where he met the country's minister of public health.

It is understood that the trip to Cuba might take place after Uhuru's official visit to Canada and the United States late this month. 

According to the Star, an MoU will be signed between the two countries where there will collaborations in the pharmaceutical sector, cancer prevention and treatment, medical engineering, biotechnology and training of health workers. 

Cuba's health system has been recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the most advanced. 

"Cuba has one of the best health models in the world. I believe there is a lot we can share on health," Uhuru said while bidding farewell to Cuban ambassador in August. 

News about the trip come after State House hosted the Health Summitt. During the summit, participants discussed the success of the managed equipment services, which according to State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu has greatly improved.
