Jubilee Party is set to launch another spirited campaign in Gusii land, a region that her strategists listed as tossup with only five months to elections.

In 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta lost with a substantial margin to opposition leader Raila Odinga in both Kisii and Nyamira counties.

While the government maintains that it has expanded infrastructure and health facilities in the region, opposition leaders maintain that locals will overwhelmingly vote for ODM.

And Jubilee campaign secretary Sam Nyangweso said the president will come at a later date, where he will inspect a number of development projects.

“We are preparing ground for him and he will soon come for a number of days here,” said the former Kisii town Mayor.

He added: “The president had done a lot here and he will come to discuss with locals. We have to reelect him for the better future of our people.”

Even though the exact dates are yet to be unveiled, on Sunday, Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiangi, Mwangi Kiunjuri and Charles Keter toured the region to set pace for Jubilee campaigns.

Should he visit the region, Kenyatta could spend several days traversing Kisii, Nyamira and Migori.

Both Gusii and Kuria regions have an estimated voter population of 900,000 and could be a major battle field for political heavyweights.
