President Uhuru Kenyatta has given a wide berth to a political meeting where independent candidates and close allies had invited him.

Despite the independents vouching to push for the president's re-election, Uhuru failed to grace the Saturday meeting at Kasarani and instead flew to Isiolo for a different rally.

Among key conveners of the Kasarani gymnasium meeting that saw the birth of Kenya Association of Independent Candidates (KAIC) were Governor aspirants Peter Kenneth (Nairobi) and William Kabogo (Kiambu).

Kabogo said they will still fight for their seats as they vouch for Uhuru's re-election.

"Most of the leaders present will campaign for Uhuru but with the outcome of the primaries, we have decided to seek seats as independent candidates," he said

"This will ensure that the decisions which the people of Kenya will make are respected and honoured," Kabogo added.

Presidential aspirant Ms Nazlin Umar, gubernatorial aspirants John Mututho (Nakuru) and Buzeki Bundotich (Uasin Gishu) were also present.

In attendance too were Kasarani MP John Njoroge, Tetu MP Ndung'u Gethenji and former Cabinet minister Musa Sirma.
