President Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken for the very first time after IEBC declared him president-elect on Friday night and after demonstartions were witnessed in sections of Nairobi and Kisumu.
First, the Head of State took time to recognise the patriotic efforts of Kenyan athlete in the world championship in London that ended on Sunday.
"I take this opportunity to congratulate the Kenyan Athletics team in London. They did us proud," said Uhuru.
Uhuru also urged Kenyans not to engage in destructive protests saying it was their right to do so but violent demonstrations will not be tolerated.
"People are free to protest but the gov't will not allow destruction of property. We will not allow the loss of lives, destruction of property and looting," said Uhuru.
The president also said the elections are over and the nation should get back to work.
"Kenyans have said the election is behind them and majority have returned to work," he added.
