President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally broken his silence on who he supports in the Jubilee Party for Nairobi governor position.

Jubilee leaders interested in the seat occupied by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Governor Evans Kidero have failed to reach a consensus on who among them will represent the party come August 8.

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru have all submitted their nomination papers to the Jubilee Party.

Sonko and Kenneth’s difference played out on Sunday after the flamboyant Senator attacked the 2013 presidential aspirant during a live TV interview.

He said he can never step down for Kenneth in the race for the party’s ticket, accusing him of undermining Uhuru during the 2013 elections campaigns.

“I can never step down for him,” he said on Citizen TV.

Sonko went ahead and hurled insults at Kenneth, actions which have been condemned by a section of Jubilee leaders and Kenyans at large.

However, speaking on Monday evening, Uhuru said he has no preferred Jubilee candidate to take on Kidero.

Uhuru said he only wants to see his party clinch the seat after the general election.

"As I have said, I am available to be an independent and honest broker to bring people together. But if they decide they will fight it out to the ballot, then that is their right and I will not support any side of the divide," he said during an interview on Citizen Nipashe.

"The only thing I have requested is that the people should elect for me a Jubilee candidate but I won't force their choice," he added.
