President Uhuru Kenyatta has slammed leaders opposed to the handshake between him and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
According to Uhuru, such leaders are against the unity of the country.
Speaking during the funeral service of Kenneth Matiba, Kenyatta said that he was well aware of the murmurs of discomfort in the unity pact with Mr Odinga from both their camps.
“I know there are many who were not pleased with what we did, we know, we’re hearing noise from here and there… both from my side and his (Raila’s) side… and that is the truth, because they (those opposed to the handshake) thrive on commotion,” said Mr Kenyatta.
He maintained that the handshake was meant for the benefit of the country.
“But we decided that we do not want those who thrive on commotion, we want those who will thrive in peace and prosperity, that is the direction we wish and desire for our people," said President Uhuru Kenyatta said.
President Kenyatta further defended his handshake with Mr Odinga saying unity was important for democracy to thrive.
