On Monday, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) announce new pay structures for state officials with the President, his deputy and the Members of Parliament not spared.
The pay cut is seen by many as one of the biggest debate that will take center stage once the 12th parliament convenes after the August 8, polls following the expulsion of several allowances allocated to the honorable members.
However, President Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken for the first time on Tuesday concerning the announcement by SRC chairperson Sarah Serem.
"SRC pay review has my unequivocal support. I call upon Kenyans to support SRC's recommendations," said Uhuru.
The Head of State also praised the efforts by SRC saying they will help tame the ever surging wage bill in the country.
"The SRC report will go a long way in guiding and ensuring prudent in the way we manage public funds. Our Constitution created SRC to streamline public sector pay," he added.
The new pay structures will reportedly save the taxpayer Sh9 billion annually.
