State House has responded to claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta had a hand in the withdrawal of security detail attached to Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi.
According to State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, the changes were initiated by the county regional commanders and not under the orders of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“My understanding is that regional command structures in Mombasa and Kilifi are reorganizing themselves and I think it would be up to them to respond to any issues around that reorganisation. There’s no political motive in operational matters within the police force, it’s up to the various commands to make decisions as they deem fit in response to emerging security issues within their jurisdictions,” said Esipisu during a brief at State House on Sunday.
Esipisu said that the changes had nothing to do with Joho's questioning of Jubilee's development agenda in Mombasa.
“They started recalling each and every person who has been assigned to His Excellency the Governor (Joho) and that was from the residential house, to the office and his own personal bodyguards have been asked to report back to their stations.”
