President Uhuru Kenyatta, in an unprecedented move, rewarded the Kenya U-18 IAAF team with an all paid recreational vacation to the Coast.

The team comprises of athletes, coaches and technicians who welcomed the move as communicated by Team Kenya Coach, Gikonyo Kariuki.

The U-18 team delivered good results for the championships held between July 12-16.

They were fourth overall in the championships having garnered 4 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze behind Cuba (5 gold 2 silver and 1 bronze), China (5 gold 2 silver and 4 bronze) and South Africa (5 gold 3 silver and 3 bronze).

The athletes, who met President Kenyatta on Friday were each rewarded with Sh100,000 as a token of appreciation totaling to 7.6 million shillings.

Team Captain David Saruni said the holiday offer was great for the team after days of training and a week of pressure at the championships.
