President Uhuru Kenyatta came in terms with reality of bad state of roads during his two days campaign trail in Gusii region.
Unaware of their plans, the presidential motorcade used potholed Jogoo-Nyatieko, Nyatieko-Nyakoe and Nyachenge-Tabaka in their bid to reach interior regions.
Initially, handlers of the president had skipped main highway that connects Kisii-Marani due to its worrying conditions along Egesa estate in Kisii.
“I am used to flying but I must admit that these roads are in poor conditions. I have heard your cries and once in Nairobi I will ensure that we have enough funds to improve them,” he said.
“As government, infrastructure is key to our economy and that is my pledge. I am committed to work with you and I will ensure this is done,” he added.
During his tour, Uhuru released at least Sh800 million to the IDPs selected from Kisii and Nyamira who have been languishing in abject poverty.
But a section of opposition leaders led by Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire have dismissed his incentives as ‘political gimmicks’.
