President Uhuru Kenyatta has disagreed with Attorney General Githu Muigai over the ban or registration of churches.

The president told Muigai that curtailing the process of churches' registrations was denying Kenyans their right and freedom of worship.

He told off the AG, reminding him that it was not his (Githu's) work to ban enlisting of churches.

"Recently, the AG said no more churches would be registered. He should stop things that he doesn't understand," he said, adding that the AG must rescind his directive.

"If anyone wants to register a church, so long as he worships the God we know, he should be allowed to register to preach the word of God. We want religious leaders to enjoy freedom of worship."

This comes after a recent outcry from religious leaders who expressed their dissatisfaction from the AG's proposal to regulate churches.
