Lodwar residents were on Wednesday left in shock after President Uhuru Kenyatta declared that their failure to vote for him would not cause the world to end.

Addressing a crowd in the area, President Kenyatta claimed that like all other politicians he would ask for votes but whatever the choice of the people would be, the world would still go round.

"Shida yangu si uongozi, shida yangu ni kufanya kazi ambayo itabadilisha maisha ya wananchi. (My problem is not leadership, what i'm concerned with is work that will improve the lives of citizens),"he declared.

This comes after a spat occurred between the president and Turkana governor Josephat Nanok over the contentious oil in the area.

During December 2016 president Kenyatta quashed a bill that sought to allocate 10% of revenue generated from oil to the local communities. He instead proposed that the amount be reduced to 5%.

"Therefore, whoever thinks i can be intimidated should try someone else," he concluded
