President Uhuru Kenyatta will award Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho for his distinguished service to the nation as part of the 53rd Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Joho alongside his 41 counterparts have been nominated by the Council of Governors (CoG) for decoration with the coveted Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) medals.
The CoG said the governors deserve to be awarded for the various roles they have played either as county bosses or before they assumed office.
Joho will be awarded for spearheading improvement of the county’s health department by renovating the children’s and women’s wards at the Coast General Hospital.
The outspoken governor has been on a mission to upgrade the hospital to international standards.
Coast General Hospital is the second largest government hospital in Kenya, and serves as the tertiary referral centre for the entire Coast region.
He has also been hailed for ensuring improvement in traffic management in the coastal city.
