President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho are set to officially open the newly refurbished Kongowea Market in August.
The Mombasa County government and the national government, have both contributed to the refurbishment of the market, which is the largest open air market in East Africa.
There have been speculations of competition between the two governments, rumours that have been denied by Mombasa Transport Executive Twafiq Balala.
"This is not the case. We are not competing. Both governments are complementing each other and the two leaders will open the market together," Balala said.
On the other hand, there has been confusion about whose name should be inscribed on the market's plaque since both Uhuru and Joho contributed to the renovation.
However, Balala clarified that protocol will be observed when it comes to that.
"You know what protocol demands, it is his name (Uhuru's) that will appear on the plaque," he added.
