President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed that he will be commissioning the first ever tarmacked road in Lamu County.
Speaking in Bamburi during his Mombasa tour on Thursday, Uhuru said his government is committed to initiating various projects in the Coast region in a bid to create employment among youth, as well as boost the region’s economy.
"I will soon be going to Lamu to commission the first kind of tarmac road that has never been there since the history of that place, which will connect the area with Mombasa,” said Uhuru, as quoted by Nation.
He pledged to launch several other road projects in Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale counties.
"We will also do another road upgrading project along Samburu-Kinango Road," he added.
Uhuru rubbished the Opposition’s claims that Jubilee has been sidelining the Coast region, saying his government does not discriminate against any region.
"My government has done development without favouring any region and we shall continue to ensure we advocate for Kenyans to disregard divisive politics and focus on unity and peace," he said.
He urged Coast residents to shun divisive politics and unite ahead of the general polls.
